This grant is a professional development opportunity for 30 high school
 history teachers, funded by the US Department of Education.

Themes of transportation, communication and energy development in
 the Northwest will be placed in the context of American history.

Topics for the three year grant:

  • 2008 – Nationalizing and Globalizing
     the Northwest (1940s to 1990s).

  • Note: Online course from 2006
             and 2007 available for review

  • 2006 – American Expansion into the
       Northwest (1790s to 1880s)
  • 2007 – Technology Transforms the
       Northwest (1880s to 1940s)

  • 2008 Plan

  • Online Course – January-May
       through UM Online, Continuing Education,
       The University of Montana, Missoula
  • Summer Institute / Research Project –
       June 23 – 27, 2008
       Northwest Museum of Art & Culture
       Spokane, Washington
